Tangerine, SpinTel and Superloop are the providers you’ll see a lot of in our February picks, with Tangerine and SpinTel swapping winning spots across our two categories. Tangerine’s XL Speed Boost Unlimited takes out the top spot in February for NBN 50 users thanks to better-than-usual six-month promotional pricing.
That Tangerine plan is replacing SpinTel’s NBN Unlimited Plus Plan, which is now a runner-up alongside Superloop’s nbn™ Home Standard plan, both of which also have six-month discounted pricing.
For speedier NBN 100 plans, SpinTel’s NBN Unlimited Premium plan overtakes last month’s winner, Tangerine’s XXL Speed Boost Unlimited plan, to take out the pole position. Superloop returns as a worthy runner-up here, too, this time with its nbn™ Home Fast plan.
Best nbn™ Plan: Heavy Use
Great for bigger households of more than four people whose users are all online at the same time e.g. share houses or family homes with teenagers. Speeds from 50-100Mbps.
SpinTel is our pick for Heavy Use this month with their new WhistleOut Exclusive discount promo on the nbn™ Unlimited Premium Plan.
What we love:
- 90Mbps typical evening speed
- Unlimited data
- Save $10.95 p/m for the first 6mths
- No contract so you're free to switch away
Best nbn™ Plan: Medium Use
Medium use plans are a comfortable option for most moderate to high use households of around 2-4 people. Speeds from 25-50 Mbps.
Tangerine takes the throne this month with their updated discount offer on their XL Speed Boost Unlimited Plan.
What we love:
- 42Mbps typical evening speed
- Unlimited data
- Save $15 p/m for the first 6mths
- No contract and 14 day nbn trial so you're free to switch away
Best nbn™ Plan: Light Use
This is a good option for single person household. Or if you're budgeting - 1 to 2 people could get by if you moderate your activities and when you're both online. Speeds from 12-25 Mbps.
If you are looking for an nbn™ plan with light usage, Tangerine would be a great choice!
What we love:
- 21Mbps typical evening speed
- Unlimited data
- Save $15 p/m for the first 6mths
- No contract and 14 day nbn trial so you're free to switch away
How we choose the best nbn™ plans for February
Given how ubiquitous unlimited NBN plans are these days, we start with the limitless data caps when sourcing the best-value plans for our NBN 50 and NBN 100 categories. We start with NBN 50 because it’s a more versatile speed tier for the average home, instead of the slower NBN 12 and NBN Basic 25. And we tap out at NBN 100 because NBN 250 and NBN 1000 are only available to FTTP and select HFC connections, not to mention they’re more expensive.
The other two major considerations are first-year value followed by a provider’s self-reported typical evening download speeds. Taking all of that into account, Tangerine’s XL Speed Boost Unlimited returns to regain its throne after not having a crown since October 2020. Tangerine used to consistently win this spot care of a $10 ongoing discount, but that’s now been raised to $15 a month. While this plan is usually priced at $69.90, you’ll pay a $54.90 monthly fee for the first six months ($748.80 first-year cost) if you get in by the end of February.
Even though the price is low the typical evening download speeds are still high at 42Mbps, and there’s a 14-day zero-risk trial if you want to try before you buy. SpinTel’s NBN Unlimited Plus plan may play second fiddle this month, but it still has great value thanks to a WhistleOut Exclusive offer. The first six months cost $59 apiece for new sign-ups before reverting to the usual $64.95 monthly fee ($743.70 first-year cost), with great 45Mbps typical evening download speeds.
The last NBN 50 alternative for February also offers six months of promotional pricing. Superloop’s nbn™ Home Standard plan is normally $69.95 a month but is reduced to a $59.95 monthly fee for the first six months if you sign up by 31 July ($778.80 first-year cost). That monthly price comes with great 44.4Mbps typical evening download speeds.
If you fancy the faster speeds of NBN 100 plans, you should start by looking at our February winner. The SpinTel Unlimited Premium plan currently has a $10.95 WhistleOut Exclusive discount, which means you’re only paying $74 a month for the first six months instead of the typical $84.95 monthly fee ($953.70 first-year cost). That great value pricing is paired with great 90Mbps typical evening download speeds, too.
For another 100/20 plan alternative, Tangerine’s XXL Speed Boost Unlimited plan is worth a look, with that $15 discount from above applying here, too. So instead of paying $89.90 a month, this Tangerine plan costs $74.90 a month for the first six months ($988.80 first-year cost). As with the other Tangerine plan above, you can also take advantage of a 14-day no-risk trial to see what it’s all about before investing any money, and you’ll get to experience good 83Mbps typical evening download speeds.
The final February alternative is Superloop’s nbn™ Home Fast plan, which boasts the same great 90Mbps typical evening download speeds as the winning SpinTel plan. While the logic of six months of promotional pricing is the same, the Superloop runner-up is more expensive: the first six months cost $74.95 apiece before reverting to the $89.95 typical monthly fee ($989.40 first-year cost).
