Optus has launched a pair of new NBN plans designed for families that are bundled with a WiFi extender in addition to the standard modem that comes with all of the telco's NBN plans. The plans are ostensibly designed to be an "all in one" internet solution that helps families smother their entire house with wireless connectivity.
Optus' family plans are available in both NBN 50 speed and NBN 100 speed tiers. The NBN 50 plan will set you back $79 per month for the first year, and then $85 per month thereafter. Optus reports typical evening speeds of 45Mbps on NBN 50 plans.
The NBN 100 plan will set you back $99 per month for the first year, and then $105 per month thereafter. Optus reports typical evening speeds of 90Mbps on NBN 100 plans.
In addition to a WiFi extender, both plans also include Optus' Ultra WiFi modem with 4G backup, a Fetch Mini with a three-month free upgrade to the Ultimate channel pack, and an Optus Sport subscription.
The first year discount is available until April 4, while the Fetch upgrade offer runs until March 31.
While the plans are both contract-free, be aware that if you leave within your first three years, you'll need to pay out a prorated modem and WiFi extender fee. This is equivalent to $13 per month remaining in your three year term.
