Considering an Optus Sport subscription? You'd be in good company - even felix mobile General Manager for Business Development Paul Tierney has let slip that he uses the platform.
In this guide we'll tell you everything you need to know about Optus Sport.
- What is Optus Sport?
- What's on it?
- How much does it cost?
- What internet speed do I need?
- How much data does Optus Sport use?

What is Optus Sport?
In case it wasn’t clear, Optus Sport is Optus’ sport streaming service. The platform is home to the largest soccer (sorry, football) catalogue in Australia and is the easiest way to access these matches live, and on demand.
While the platform comes as an add-on to many Optus mobile and internet plans, you can sign up independently for a reasonable price.
What's on Optus Sport?
Optus Sport, affectionately referred to as OS could almost be renamed to Optus Soccer because that is currently what you’ll get for your subscription. OS is the exclusive Australian home to:
- Premier League
- UEFA Champions League
- UEFA Nations League
- UEFA Euro
- UEFA Europa
- Euro2020
The platform also has the right to stream select matches of:
- European Qualifiers
- J.League
- Barclay Women’s Super League
Note that not every single match will be available on-demand. Some matches such as Premier League are only available on demand until the next round begins, and Optus is limited to show up to 29 matches per club, per season, on demand. The official recommendation is to use the record feature on your Fetch TV set top box if you’re worried about missing an event.
You’ll also find matches from K.League, FA Women’s Super League and a range of Mini Matches, classic matches, news, interviews and more Optus Sport originals.
Subscribers using Fetch TV boxes can also stream UFC pay per view special events for an additional fee.
OS Fitness
In addition all Optus Sport subscriptions come with access to OS Fitness, supplying workouts directly to your device. With over 80 yoga, dance, cardio, core and strength workouts available to follow.
Workouts are devised by leading fitness providers including FIIT, Flow Athletic and Virtual Playground, with more partners and workouts to be added soon.
How much does Optus Sport cost?
Subscriptions are available for just $14.99 per month or $139 for an annual plan but many Optus customers can access the platform for much less than that.
Most Prepaid customers can access a 28-day OS add-on for just $5, the catch is that you’ll need to have an active recharge at all times. So while you could get a Flexi recharge for $1 (valid for one day) and chuck on Optus Sports for $5 while you’re at it, that will only net you one day of unfettered football. You can’t loophole your way to a subscription for $6 per month. Sorry.
You can however add on Optus Sports for just $5 per 28-days on any of the below recharges.

There are no free trials available but subscriptions are on a rolling, month-to-month basis so you’re free to leave at any time. If you opt for the annual pass then you will have access for the full 12 months from your subscription date, when it will be auto-renewed unless you cancel beforehand.
How fast does my internet need to be?
Optus recommends download speeds of at least 3Mbps for seamless streaming, or 7Mbps on second generation Fetch set top boxes.
How much data does Optus Sport use?
Currently we don’t have any real world data on how much data Optus Sport uses, but we will update this guide when we do.
Streaming service data usage is relatively standardised, Kayo Sports uses 2.5GB per hour on 720p streams while Netflix uses around 3GB in the same timeframe. We can assume that Optus Sport sits somewhere within this threshold too.
Best plans for Optus Sport
Streaming can be data and download intensive, so it is always worthwhile opting for a plan with a big - if not unlimited- data allowance. Unsurprisingly Optus plans are a great option for Optus Sport subscribers simply because it negates your subscription fees.
On top of that, Optus has topped the ACCC NBN speeds report five times in a row so you know that you’ll be getting a fast, reliable connection. Here are the fastest NBN providers in our database for NBN 50 connections. Plans from these ISPs will not only be fast enough to handle multiple streams at once, but will leave you with a great buffer for households of up to four people.
